🌿 Sustainable Tourism for Lemur Conservation: GIVB Field Station Enters a New Phase
Grewcock Ihofa Vohitsara Bioreserve Field Station (GIVB)
The Grewcock Ihofa Vohitsara Bioreserve Field Station (GIVB) in Madagascar is becoming a beacon of hope, not just for ecotourism but for the conservation of one of the most unique ecosystems on Earth. Thanks to the support of the Marat Karpeka Lemur Foundation, the station is entering its third phase of development with a clear mission: to protect nature without compromising visitor comfort.

☀️ Eco-Infrastructure Powered by the Sun
The new stage of infrastructure development focuses on installing solar panels and eco-friendly water supply systems in the guest houses. With the foundation’s help, the Madagascar Biodiversity Partnership is implementing energy-efficient solutions that ensure a safe and sustainable stay for future guests.

This is more than a technical upgrade. It is a step toward a model of responsible tourism that respects the forest and its inhabitants.

🌍 Why Here?

The Rainforest That Could Vanish
Ihofa Vohitsara Bioreserve is not just another forest. It is a rare, fragile, and vital ecosystem:

🐒 14 lemur species, including:

  • Indri
  • Diademed Sifaka
  • Aye-Aye
  • Greater Bamboo Lemur
  • Red-bellied Lemur
Many of them are listed as Critically Endangered (CR), Endangered (EN), or Vulnerable (VU)

🌱 939 plant species, with 77% endemic to Madagascar, found nowhere else on Earth

🐦 Over 110 species of birds, reptiles, amphibians, and mammals make this reserve their home

This area is one of the last strongholds for endangered wildlife and it needs protection now.
🐒 How Ecotourism Protects the Forest

Lemurs are more than charismatic animals. They are key seed dispersers in Madagascar’s rainforests. For example, the Black-and-white Ruffed Lemur helps regenerate trees by spreading their seeds, a role vital for the forest’s survival.

By supporting ecotourism, we:
  • Create jobs and income for local communities
  • Provide an economic reason to preserve the forest
  • Support conservation research and habitat restoration
  • Replace hunting and logging with sustainable alternatives

💚 Every Conscious Traveler Makes a Difference
Soon, the guest houses at GIVB will be ready to welcome the first visitors. These travelers won’t just enjoy an unforgettable experience. They will actively support conservation in action.

This initiative is a reminder: we can travel responsibly, live sustainably, and protect biodiversity, all at the same time.

🙏 Join us in protecting Madagascar’s unique wildlife and ecosystems.
